healthy snacks

hmmm...wonder how I can perk these up?

I have a love-hate relationship with after-schools snacks.  I would love to eat candy and cookies and plop down on the couch and I hate to think of healthy fare because usually it is soooo boring. Needless to say, the healthy after-school snack was long dead in my house until recently.  But, eating healthy is about both how much you eat and what you eat.  The healthy after-school snack is my new friend- albeit we’re still getting to know each other- and I’ll keep her around as long as she’s interesting.

So I started looking around for interesting, easy and healthy after-school snacks.  Kids get bored easily, so you have to be creative with their food choices.  I mean really, how many times have they stood with the fridge open complaining there is nothing to eat and all you see is a fridge stuffed full of food.  It’s not that there is nothing to eat, it’s just there is nothing interesting to eat.  So whether it be a healthy and quick alternative to cheesecake or the cucumber yogurt boats, these recipes have sweet, savory, creative and easy nailed.  The best part?  They’re healthy.

Everyone, as best as I can figure, works outside the home- even if it is just part time or volunteering.  And once your kids get old enough to stay home by themselves, you lose a lot of say so in their food choices.  So what are your tricks?  What unique tastes and flavors convince your kids to eat the healthy after school snacks when you have to compete with “super max, chilli, cheese” and what-not and you’re not there?
